Movie Review: 1408

I went into the horror genre on Amazon Prime and decided to watch all of them, from # to Z. 2007's 1408 starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson was up first. I'd heard of the movie and I was pretty sure I saw the end of it a while back, but I'd never seen the movie. I was intrigued, especially since Cusack will be at C2E2 this March. This is probably one of the most unsettling movies I've seen yet.

Cusack plays Mike Enslin, a successful author of many haunted (insert place here) books. He's mostly just debunking them and getting very tired of it. He's very cynical and doesn't believe in ghosts or beasties. He gets this postcard from The Dolphin Hotel telling him to never stay in Room 1408. He is very adamant about staying in the room even after the hotel's manager (Jackson) vehemently warning him and trying to bribe him away from the room.

Of course things go horribly wrong as we delve deeper into the psyche of Mike. We learn about his daughter and his wife and his dad. All leading into a horrific roller coaster ride through this man's stay in Room 1408.

I've become not a big fan of Stephen King novel-based movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I'd highly recommend it, but be warned for jump-scares.

Moral of this movie: Listen to Samuel L. Jackson.
