Release the Beast | Purge Spoiler Review #4

"They said it would make me feel better, but I don't feel better. I feel worse."

That line though.

This episode was good. My favorite part, as usual, was Lila and Jenna... and my boy Joe.

We pick up where we left off with Jane. Her coworker has killed her other coworker. That's when that gem of a line is said and I couldn't love it more. Jane begins to truly regret her decision to hire the hitman.

Lila consoles Jenna after seeing the man get shot and killed. We get to see a flashback of the three of them, mostly Rick (blah) and Jenna talking about whether it's a one-time thing and that neither should be alone with her. Go away, Rick, just go away.

Pete the cop is hesitate to help Miguel when he learns that his sister was taken by the nuns. That leads us to the Carnival of Flesh, where Penelope is being lead through a pen like a heifer or something. A man tries to escape and is killed through the fencing. This place, minus the actual killing part and the part where they're selling people, seems like a good time. It's like a real-life torture museum, like at Medieval Times.

Another flashback has us in Jenna's kitchen, she is alone with Lila and they bond over their mutual want to help people and their hatred of the NFFA. We come back to Lila telling Jenna that she feels like the deal should go through still. She knows Jenna is doing it for the right reasons, but she doesn't think is doing it for any reason but the money. Lila tells her that she would raise the baby with her! What???!!! Say yes. Leave that boring ol' husband of yours.

We see a man killed by firing squad at the Carnival of Flesh. A woman in the pen with Penelope decides she wants to go out on her own terms and pulls out a shiv, taking down a couple of the guards before they take her out. Penelope sees that an old man is being crushed and, being a decent human being, forces everyone to get off of him. He thinks she's his granddaughter Katie.

Jane calls the hospital that her mom is staying at and asks the nurse there to make sure her mom knows she forgives her. And then she grabs a hammer and goes outside. Outside! Dude, I'd rather just call my boss up and say, "Look, I hired someone to kill you. I changed my mind though so, we're good."

A jar of moonshine from Pete the cop has Miguel getting a meeting with a cowboy. For Pete, he'll help Miguel get into Carnival of Flesh.

When the sweet old man tries to get Penelope out, he starts attracting attention and she confesses that her name is Penelope and she's not his granddaughter. They are taken to the front of the line as they were making a fuss.

Cowboy turns out not to be a cowboy, but a former Verizon call center employee. They come to a roadblock of anti-NFFA. They let them pass.

Jane is attacked by a guy with a homemade roofie. A motor-home pulls around the corner and a group of women jump out, saving Jane and taking her with them. They are called the Matron Saints. They protect the city's women from the "gendercide" on Purge Night. She has to go on a call with them.

OMG! We get to see what broke up the RJL triangle when Rick comes home to find Jenna and Lila cuddled up in bed together. He's all mad and she slaps him, but promises not to see Lila again.

The old man is sold for like $75. Penelope is sold to a guy named Henry for $2000. She apparently knows him, but we don't know him yet. He looks exactly like Robert Sheehan with one Siberian Husky eye. I'm incredibly interested in this guy. Especially because I love Robert Sheehan.

We learn that Cowboy is a "Collector" for the Carnival of Flesh. He picks people up and delivers them to the Carnival.

As the festivities begin at the NFFA-guy's house, Lila goes upstairs, leaving the party and the maid pulls Jenna aside and tells her that she needs to leave the house.

Joe, our friendly neighborhood mask-clad, self-help-listening vigilante savior, fails to save two people and has a meltdown. He pulls off his mask as he sobs, revealing himself to be Lee Tergensen, who I remembered from two episodes of Copper I just re-watched. What are the odds???
