HCW: Black Dragons
Date Watched: January 14, 2013
Date Released: March 6, 1942
Starring: Bela Lugosi, Clayton Moore, Joan Barclay
Running Time: 64 minutes
Rating: 1 of 5
When I saw Bela Lugosi’s name, I was very excited, but twenty minutes into the movie I realized that Hollywood had to capitalize on one of the most famous horror movies ever. Dracula was released in 1931 and even ten years later, they were still trying to achieve the same magic. To do that, they had to put Bela Lugosi in every movie they could think of. Well… it didn’t work for Black Dragons.
I’m assuming Lugosi’s character is a plastic surgeon – Dr. Melcher – who changes the faces of some dudes to make them look like other dudes. I’m still not entirely sure what happened or why and I’ve read the description about ten times now.
And seeing Bela Lugosi raise his hand up and say, “Heil Hitler” was very, very unsettling though.
